CPR Information

Once each year, the club has a CPR Training Night.  All members are encouraged to attend these meetings as they present an ideal opportunity to catch up on any changes to recommended resuscitation techniques.  A summary of the currently accepted procedures are given below.  To learn about the procedure in more detail, please refer to the website of the New Zealand Resuscitation Council.


CARDIO-PULMONARY  RESUSCITATION

 

Adult

  • Danger – Self and Victim
  • Response – Touch and Talk
  • Send for HELP - Bystander
  • Airway -  Open airway, head tilt chin lift
  • Breathing – Assess breathing Look, Listen, and Feel.  If not breathing then
  • Go for help if alone
  • Circulation - 30 chest compressions with 2 hands on centre of the chest 
  • If a defibrillator is available attach pads immediately & follow prompts        
  • Chest Compressions at the rate of 100 per minute; depth 1/3 chest
  • Give 2 breaths then 30 compressions, repeat this or compressions only
  • Continue until help arrives

 

Child/Infant

  • Danger – Self and Victim
  • Response – Child: Touch and Talk.  Infant: Pick up
  • Send for HELP - Bystander
  • Airway -  Assess airway Child: head tilt chin lift  Infant: slight head tilt
  • Breathing – Assess breathing Look, Listen, and Feel.  If not breathing then
  • Circulation - 30 chest compressions Child: 1 hand     Infant: 2 fingers
  • Chest Compressions at the rate of 100 per minute; depth 1/3 chest
  • Give 2 breaths then 30 compressions, repeat for 1 minute then
  • Go for help if alone         

 

First Aid for Choking

 

Conscious and Breathing Victim

 

Encourage to cough and spit out foreign body

 

Victim unable to breath

 

Alternating cycles of 5 back blows then 5 chest thrusts
